ABOUT ME

When my mother brought our new puppy to my first grade class for show and tell, the entire class immediately gathered around her. The entire class, that is, except me. I was too engrossed in my writing to realize she had walked in. I’ve been absorbed in words ever since. My career as a writer has spanned more than 30 years, from the television newsroom to a communications agency to my own home office.

After a neighbor asked me to review her son’s college admission essays in 2011, I quickly realized I had found my niche. I was already fascinated — some say obsessed — with the college admissions process. Now I am able to blend my writing and editing skills with my sincere joy in connecting with young people and guiding them toward the next phase of their lives. Since launching my business in 2013, I have worked with hundreds of students on somewhere around 3,000 essays, and I can still tell you something special about each of them, from the foodie to the astrophotography buff, from the guy who escapes to the crooning of Frank Sinatra to the girl who wrote so eloquently about trees.

A lifelong learner, I stay abreast of developments in college admissions by constantly reading articles, following college counseling Facebook groups and listservs, attending meetings of national organizations, and visiting college campuses. I am also committed to enhancing college access for students in underserved communities through pro bono work. I currently serve on the board and volunteer at Save Our Youth (SOY) in Costa Mesa, where I offer a college essay workshop and review students' essays. In 2017, I served as an essay coach with Peer Forward.
